My Dear Families,
There are so many factors important to making a Film; in a way it’s sort of infinite. There’s no one-way and the playing field is vast; what a Beautiful thing.
I want to single out and share just one action that I strongly feel has contributed to the well-being of the productions I have been involved in.
And it’s simple: better working hours.
I have been on set on multiple occasions, filming for 16 hours in one day. At times, for consecutive days.
And there’s nothing awesome about that.
I never truly felt that this approach served the Story we were trying to tell. And it certainly didn’t serve the crew, composed of human beings, who with their talent and skill, make the dream of making a film an actual reality.
And so I started exploring ways to find a solution to this and arrived at the system I now use.
~ 8 hours on set per day, and that’s it ~
It takes an alchemy of creative writing, budgeting and planning. But it is possible. And it promotes Efficiency.
In the future, I will share a few ideas on how to accomplish this.
Please feel free to reach out if you have questions, suggestions or just want to connect.
Have a Beautiful day.
Rise,
JC
