My Dear Families,

What a Beautiful thing it is to connect with You today.

Off the gate I just have to say Thank You for the feedback to last week’s Newsletter. I received so many amazing recommendations for books to read. Everything from non-fiction to fantastical and utopian. What a powerful Source of Inspiration a good book can be!

Following up on the topic of Inspiration, I want to share a lil bit about another source: Painting.

I’ve always had a great deal of respect for the art of Painting. It’s such a powerful form of expression; such an awe-inspiring form of communication. Some of my favorite artists in the realm of Painting are Picasso and Salvador Dali.

Another artist whose work has always caught my attention is Jean-Michel Basquiat. His creative works feel so relatable to me. I don’t know exactly why but every time I see his work, I experience a simplicity, a quiet connection to a perception of the world and its people.

I think of his process as not involving much thinking and more a moment to moment expression of his Being. And I identify with that.

I grew up walking the streets of the world. I still do. I’m curious about things as simple as an old building in a modest small town or a faded chair on an empty house porch. There’s something about Basquiat’s work that allows me to connect to that form of inspiration and in turn, use it for my own creative process.

I was fortunate to visit the exhibit JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT: KING PLEASURE in Los Angeles, organized and curated by his sisters. It features over 200 of his original works. It was awesome. Find below some snapshots I took of his works.

I wonder, my Dear Friend, Have You ever felt drawn to a particular painting?

If you could recommend one artist for me to look into, who would it be?

I look forward to hearing from You.

Have a Beautiful day.

Rise,

JC
